Feature CV of the Month

Ronald E. "Ron" MacKay

Criminal Investigative Analyst

(
Psychological profiler)

Criminal Investigative Analysis(commonly referred to as psychological profiling) has received a good deal of publicity regarding cases of sexual homicide and sexual assault but it also can be very beneficial to those who seek to evaluate many other issues. Threats to persons or property, development of strategies to deal with offender or suspect personalities, interview techniques, arson and extortion are all examples of areas where Criminal Investigative Analysis can become a powerful tool when used correctly. It is not investigation or clinical evaluation but rather a behavioural analysis of investigative results. When mental illness is suspected to be a factor then consultation with an appropriate clinician, such as a Forensic Psychiatrist, may be called for. Forensic Behavioural Analysis can arrange for such consultation as required.

Ret/Inspector Ron Mackay is one of only two Canadians who have been trained by the FBI in these techniques and that training has not been offered since 1991. Five additional Canadians, employed by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) & Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), have been, or are being, trained through an Understudy Program designed to replicate that FBI training. Since his retirement from the RCMP in June 1997 he has been offering his services to the private sector through his company, Forensic Behavioural Analysis.  Until now these services were only available to the law enforcement community.
